2020-12-30 Dave Coppock Happy New Year, Rimrunners!

Happy New Year, Rimrunners! I’m sure we all hope that 2021 will be a better and brighter year after the challenges of 2020! That said, we’re still a ways out from getting back to normal and our club will be adjusting throughout the year. We’ll still be asking our members to mask up and practice social distancing at our weekly runs and other events. We encourage you to wear a mask when in a group, but you should be able to go maskless as our runs take off and we spread out a bit. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated!

2021 will begin the 40th year of the establishment of the Yellowstone Rimrunners. A small group of local runners met back in the fall of 1981 and organized a group to meet for weekly runs and monthly races. We began with our Wednesday night runs from Pioneer Park and added in monthly club races, followed by a potluck at members homes, during the winter months until the spring racing season picked up. Since then, the club has evolved into a group which promotes running and racing in the greater Billings area as well as state-wide. We’ve sponsored numerous events over the years and play a role in many other non-club events, as well. Forty years in existence is quite a milestone for any organization and we’ll be coming up with some ways to celebrate during 2021.

To start off the New Year right, we’ll be hosting our annual New Years Day run, bright and early on the morning of January 1st. We’ll meet at the southwest picnic shelter (the one with the fireplace) at Riverfront Park at 9:00am to run any distance you feel up to. Rather than do the potluck format, you’re encouraged to bring your own snack or drink. Looking at a warm weather forecast for January 1st, this should be a great way to usher in the new year.

Stay safe, stay distanced, stay masked and keep on running!
